SOLVED: Odd spacing in FrameMaker TOC Entries

In case you see random spacing within the TOC in your own work, know that there is an odd behavior within TOC entries when there is a language mismatch between the language you author in and the dictionary used for the text.

Specifically, when authoring in English, but having your dictionary inadvertently set to Chinese, odd spacing can occur within the table of contents.

Lin Sims reported this bizarre spacing issue on community.adobe.com

https://community.adobe.com/t5/framemaker-discussions/weird-spacing-in-toc-after-conversion-to-pdf/m-p/11427776

and within tracker.adobe.com, at

and the FrameMaker engineers were able to isolate the issue to the mismatch in dictionaries.

The good news is that they’re also working on a permanent fix to the issue, so with any luck we’ll see a patch or at least a new version that addresses this odd behavior.
