Inserting infinity symbol in FrameMaker
In response to a forum inquiry, to insert an infinity (∞, or lazy 8) symbol into a FrameMaker 9 (or later) file you can use a number of options outlined in the FrameMaker Character Sets document. Here’s a snip from that manual showing the options for the symbol in question:
One very important point: The ANSI code given (0165) displays the Yen symbol in many fonts. If you see ¥ (¥) after inserting, then change your font (using a character or paragraph tag as needed) to symbol. When in the proper font, the Alt+0165 should produce the correct character.
If you’ve never used ANSI codes before:
- Hold the Alt key down until after all digits are typed
- Use the numeric keypad for best results
- Do not omit the leading 0
If you’d like your very own copy of this document, complete with explanations of how to use the ANSI and Hex codes, download the FrameMaker 9 Character Sets PDF.
If you’re working in FrameMaker 7, download the FrameMaker 7 Character Sets PDF.
Oh, and if you want to display this symbol on a web page, use the ∞ code.
